Putting on and taking off contact lenses is easier than you might think. It may take a little getting used to, but soon you’ll discover your own way and be doing it without a second thought. Watch below as real contact lens wearers show you how they do it.

For some additional help getting started follow the step-by-step guide below. This guide is intended to supplement what your optician has shown you, and you should always follow the instructions they have given you.

HOW TO PUT ON YOUR CONTACT LENSES IN FOUR EASY STEPS

Before you start

Wash your hands with soap (preferably non-perfumed, anti-bacterial liquid soap), then rinse and dry your hands with a lint-free towel. It’s a good idea to always put on your contact lenses in the same order, e.g. with your right eye first. This way you won’t get your lenses mixed up.

Check the lens isn't inside out

To do this, just put the lens on the tip of your finger and hold it up to the light. If the edges flare out, it's inside out. If it looks like a smooth-edged cup, it’s ready to go. Most ACUVUE® Contact Lenses also have a 123 indicator, so you can easily tell when they are inside out. If the numbers are the right way around, so is the lens.

Hold your eye open

With your free hand, gently hold your upper eyelid so you don’t blink. With the lens on your finger tip, use the other fingers of your applying hand to pull down your lower eyelid.

Applying the lens

Keep your hand steady and look upwards as you place the lens on your eye, then slowly release your eyelid and close your eye for a moment to allow the lens to settle. Repeat for your other eye.

HOW TO TAKE OFF YOUR CONTACT LENSES IN FOUR EASY STEPS

Ensure your hands are clean and dry

Start with your right eye to avoid mixing up your contact lenses. Look up and carefully pull down your lower eyelid with your middle finger.

Slowly bring your index finger to your eye

Until you touch the lower edge of the lens. Then slide the lens down to the lower white part of your eye

Gently squeeze the lens

Between your thumb and index finger and remove it. Repeat for your left lens.

After removing

Discard of your daily disposables, or clean and disinfect reusable contact lenses. N.B. Never rinse your contact lenses or lens case with tap water.

IMPORTANT: Never rinse your contact lenses or lens case with tap water.

HANDLING YOUR CONTACT LENES

Handling your contact lenses will soon become second nature, but we’ve added a few features to make it even easier.

Light blue tinted lenses

ACUVUE® lenses have a light blue visibility tint so you can spot them easily in the case or package. Don’t worry, the tint won’t be noticeable when you put on the contact lenses.

Checking the lens edge

Once you have the lens on your finger, there are ways to tell if it is inside out. If it’s shaped like a bowl with straight edges, it’s ready to go. If the edge curves out, it’s inside out.
