- Can I wear contact lenses when I do sport or other activities?
Contact lenses are great for sport and an active lifestyle. They give you clear vision without the bother of your glasses fogging up, falling off or breaking. And unlike glasses, you can wear them with ski-goggles or sunglasses.
Contact lenses also give you great peripheral vision. They don’t get in the way of you seeing what’s going on around you when you take part in activities and sport.
- Can I swim or shower while wearing my ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses?
Seek advice from your optician about contact lenses and activities involving water including showering, using a hot tub, swimming or other water sports. Exposing contact lenses to water may increase the risk of eye infection that could lead to vision loss. If your lenses unexpectedly come into contact with water, discard them and replace them with a new pair.
- Can I sleep in my contact lenses?
Some contact lenses can be worn while you sleep, such as ACUVUE OASYS® lenses. You can use them for six nights and seven days consecutively.
However, sleeping in contact lenses is a known risk factor for serious eye infections. Always discuss whether you should sleep wearing your lenses with your optician. Only he or she can determine if sleeping in your contact lenses is right for you.
- What can I do if my contact lenses are uncomfortable?
You might have a small particle of dust or lint on the lens that is irritating your eye. With clean, dry hands, carefully slide the lens off of the centre of your open eye and gently move the lens back to the centre while using finger pressure on your upper and lower eyelid.
If the discomfort persists, stop wearing your contact lenses and make an appointment to see your optician to find out why they are uncomfortable.
- It feels like my ACUVUE® lens is ‘lost’ in my eye. What should I do?
Don’t worry – this is impossible! Wash and dry your hands and then try the following:
- Roll your eye around until the lens works itself over to where you can see it.
- Put some rewetting drops or a few drops of multipurpose disinfecting solution into your eye and look up, down and side to side, until you can see the lens.
- Close your eyes and gently move your finger over your lid to reposition the lens.
Call your optician for advice if these methods do not work or you are still experiencing discomfort.
- What can I do if my eyesight isn’t good, even with contact lenses?
There could be a number of reasons why your vision is still not good with contact lenses. Your prescription may have changed or you may be putting the lens for your right eye in your left eye or vice versa. Book an appointment so your optician can help find the reason for you.
- Can I use eye drops or artificial tears with my ACUVUE® lenses?
Yes, but you should use eye drops or artificial tears specifically recommended for use with soft hydrophilic (water-loving) contact lenses. Always check with your optician before changing your brand of eye drops, because even mixing approved solutions can occasionally cause problems.
- Should I give my eyes a rest from contacts? Do they need time to ‘breathe’?
Your eyes don’t usually need a rest from contact lenses. You can safely wear them every day, unless your optician recommends otherwise.

Reusable lenses such as ACUVUE OASYS® only need a few minutes of care when you take them off. It is simple and easy to clean and store your lenses with prescribed disinfecting contact lens solutions. Your optician can give you advice about how to use and care for your contact lenses.

- Can I still wear contact lenses if the expiry date on the package has past?
No. The expiration date represents the time period that we can ensure the lenses are sterile. Do not use your lenses beyond the expiration date.
- I’ve forgotten to replace my reusable contact lenses on time. What should I do?
Wash and dry your hands with a lint free towel. Remove your lenses immediately and replace them with a fresh pair. Seek the advice of your optician if your eyes are uncomfortable or irritated.

- Why should I change my lenses on time? They still feel fine.
They may feel fine but changing your reusable contact lenses as directed by your optician is essential for keeping your eyes comfortable and helping to maintain healthy contact lens wear.
If you exceed the lenses’ recommended wearing schedule, they can attract deposits from your eyes, hands and environment. This can lead to blurry vision and eye irritation, itching and redness.
- My friend has never worn contacts and wants to try mine. Is this okay?
No. Never share your lenses with anyone. Your contact lenses are medical devices, prescribed by your optician to suit your individual vision needs and the unique shape of your eye.

Your ACUVUE® lenses are safe to use if they are still sealed in their original foil packet. We recommend you throw them away and use new ones if your lenses are out of their original foil package or in your lens case.
