Why try soft contact lenses?
Whether you are considering contact lenses for the first time or thinking about changing or upgrading, we can help you understand the different soft lens options available and their benefits.
Soft and comfortable to wear
Most contact lenses available today are soft lenses. Soft contact lenses are comfortable, easy to wear and most people get used to them in minutes. In fact, many people say that soft contact lenses feel almost like wearing nothing at all.
Soft contact lenses are extremely fine and contain water which enables them to stay soft and supple so that they can easily mould to the shape of your eye. They are made of materials that allow oxygen to pass through so that the eye can breathe, and some have UV protection, to protect from the sun’s radiation 1.
Types of soft contact lenses available
Your vision
Different types of soft contact lenses are available to aid all vision problems. Before you can start wearing contact lenses, you will need to arrange an appointment with an appropriately qualified eye care professional who will assess your suitability and discuss which type of lens is most appropriate for you.
Contact lenses for short and long sight
Spherical contact lenses correct basic problems with vision including short-sightedness (myopia) and long-sightedness (hyperopia). 1•DAY ACUVUE® TruEye®, 1•DAY ACUVUE® MOIST®, ACUVUE® OASYS® and ACUVUE® ADVANCE® are suitable to correct these vision impairments, quickly, comfortably and easily.
Contact lenses for astigmatism
Soft contact lenses can correct astigmatism by compensating for the differences in the shape of the eye. To find out more about astigmatism, please click here.
Contact lenses for presbyopia
Bifocal or multifocal contact lenses are used to correct presbyopia which is long sightedness that occurs usually over the age of 40 when it becomes harder to see or read close up and you start to hold things further away. ACUVUE® BIFOCAL brand contact lenses can correct this, allowing you to see both near and far. Another alternative method for correcting presbyopia is called monovision, where one eye is prescribed for distance and the other eye for reading. This method can be used with any of the contact lenses suitable for correcting short or long sight or astigmatism, as required.

- UV-absorbing contact lenses are not substitutes for UV-blocking sunglasses as they do not completely cover the eye and the surrounding area.
