What is hyperopia or long sightedness?

Hyperopia is also known as long sightedness, far sightedness or hypermetropia. People with hyperopia are able to see things better at a distance than objects close to them. If you are long sighted you may experience blurred vision, particularly whilst undertaking anything near to you including reading and working at a computer

Why does hyperopia happen?

Far sightedness is very common and is often caused by your eye being too short or the cornea at the front of the eye being too flat, which causes light to focus behind your eye instead of on the retina, resulting in a blurred image.

How do I know if I have hyperopia?

Your eye care professional will ascertain whether you have any need for vision correction and it is recommended that you have your eyes examined regularly. If you are considering contact lenses, your eye care professional will be able to advise you on the most appropriate ACUVUE® Contact Lenses that will suit your needs.

How can hyperopia be corrected?

You can choose contact lenses, glasses or possibly corrective surgery to correct hyperopia. Bending the light so that it focuses on the retina and not behind the eye will provide a sharp image. A prescription for correcting hyperopia is a positive power such as +3.00 or +5.00 where the higher the number is, the greater the correction is required.

What ACUVUE® contact lenses correct hyperopia?

Most cases of far sightedness can be corrected with ACUVUE® Contact Lenses which are available as both daily disposables and reusables. Your optician will be able to determine the right prescription and best type of contact lens to suit you.

Daily disposable lenses allow you to enjoy the fresh feeling, comfort and convenience of a new lens every day. 1•DAY ACUVUE® MOIST® and 1•DAY ACUVUE® TruEye® are suitable for people with hyperopia.

ACUVUE® reusable lenses can be used every day for up to two weeks and provide exceptional long-lasting comfort and maximum oxygen delivery for healthy looking white eyes. They should be removed, cleaned and disinfected every night, and can then be reinserted the following day. Our reusable contact lenses are ACUVUE® OASYS® and ACUVUE® ADVANCE®.
