Eye symptoms
Symptoms of a need for vision correction may involve changes in your vision. This page looks at common symptoms of vision correction related problems and the range of ACUVUE® Contact Lenses that are available for these conditions.
Symptom: I can see objects more clearly when they are near and distant objects appear blurred
Being able to see objects more clearly that are close to you than those at a distance is called short sightedness or near sightedness. The official term for this type of vision is myopia and it is very common. Myopia is caused by the light rays of distant objects focusing in front of the retina rather than at the back of the eye. You should book an appointment with your optician to have your vision checked and explore the available options for correcting it.
Symptom: I can see things better in the distance than close up
If you have difficulty focusing on objects that are nearby but can see objects more clearly in the distance then you have what is known as farsightedness, otherwise known as long sightedness, hyperopia or hypermetropia. This can affect you in your day-to-day life such as when you are reading, writing or using the computer. You may also suffer from tired eyes. Hyperopia is caused by the light rays of close objects focusing behind the retina and resulting in a blurred image. You should book an appointment with your optician to have your vision checked and explore the available options for correcting it.

Symptom: Everything I see, at all distances, appears blurred and distorted
If your vision is blurry or distorted at all distances from close up reading to looking further into the distance, such as at road signs, you may have astigmatism. This is due to the front part of the eye, called the cornea, or the lens within the eye being irregular in shape, often likened to a rugby ball. Because of their irregular shape the eye can not focus light passing through it properly onto the retina at the back of the eye and this creates a blurred image. Book an appointment with your optician in order to have your eyes checked and to discuss both glasses and contact lenses as a method for correcting your vision.
If you have astigmatism, clear and stable vision can be achieved with contact lenses designed specifically to help you see. 1•DAY ACUVUE® MOIST® for ASTIGMATISM, ACUVUE® OASYS® for ASTIGMATISM and ACUVUE® ADVANCE® for ASTIGMATISM will help provide sharp and stable vision.
They do this by compensating for the individual differences in the shape of the eye, enabling light to be correctly focused on the retina at the back of the eye.
To maintain clear vision throughout the day they need to stay in place. However, gravity and the effects of the lids against the lens surface can easily rotate or shift the lens out of position as you blink or move your eyes or head. ACUVUE® uses a unique Accelerated Stabilization Design (ASD) in those lenses designed for Astigmatism. ASD harnesses the natural pressure of your eyelids to help keep lenses where they need to be, no matter how active your lifestyle.

Symptom: Now I am getting older I have difficulty focusing on near objects for example when reading a book
As people reach their 40s or 50s, the lens inside the eye becomes less flexible and this can make it harder to focus near objects. This is called presbyopia. It is a condition that develops with age and affects everyone to some degree during their life. With presbyopia it can become difficult to focus at all on near objects such as a book, and is especially difficult in low light.
ACUVUE® contact lenses for presbyopia
Bifocal or multifocal contact lenses are used to correct presbyopia . ACUVUE® BIFOCAL Brand Contact Lenses can correct this, allowing you to see both near and far. Another alternative method for correcting presbyopia is called monovision, where one eye is prescribed for distance and the other eye for reading. This method can be used with any of the contact lenses suitable for correcting short or long sight or astigmatism, as required.
