THE EYE EXAMINATION AND “FITTING”

If you want to wear contact lenses, you have to see an Eye Care Professional (an optometrist, contact lens optician or ophthalmologist) to have your eyes examined and measured. This is also called “being fitted” for contact lenses.

Once your Eye Care Professional has examined your eyes, he or she will take a series of measurements to make sure that your contact lenses are custom-fit just for you. This procedure is similar to being fitted for a perfect pair of shoes – and we all know how uncomfortable it is to wear a size 7 shoe if your foot is a size 8! Your Eye Care Professional will ensure that your contact lenses are the correct fit for your eyes.

  • IMPORTANT: You still need a prescription even if your vision is excellent without glasses and you just want to get cosmetic lenses to change the colour of your eyes.
  • Contact lenses are classified as “medical devices,” and must be properly fitted by an Eye Care Professional. You can only buy contact lenses with a valid, written prescription.
